An association for women entrepreneurs was looking for ways to increase the wealth of its members and their companies. DiVerse Media President Diane Sears, as head of the group’s Economic Development Forum, worked with corporate partners to envision and create Go for the Greens 2008, an inaugural two-day conference that provided access for women business owners and supplier diversity officials from corporations and government agencies to get to know each other. |
A chapter of a women’s business association wanted to give back to the community. As one of the group’s leaders, Diane Sears spearheaded an effort to launch The Beacon Awards: Celebrating Diversity in Greater Orlando’s Workforce, an annual dinner started in 2006 that awards organizations and individuals for best practices in inclusion. Money raised from the event goes back to the community.

A leadership organization often calls on Diane Sears, as a journalist, to appear on panels about the media’s role in the community. She also has served as a panel moderator for community business events, including one on funding sources for entrepreneurs at the 2008 Central Florida Small Business Summit.

At an annual event held by two public relations organizations (PRSA and FPRA), Diane Sears joins other journalists in advising professionals on the best ways to get their news into the media.

A chapter of a women’s business association decided to hold an expo-type of event to showcase products and services for entrepreneurs. Diane Sears worked with a committee to produce the first women’s business expo in 2000. It has grown every year and now includes several partner organizations as well as corporate sponsors.
